Travel Tips to Charlotte (CLT)
Charlotte – The “Queen City”
The American city of Charlotte is located in Mecklenburg County district in the state of North Carolina. It is named after the Prussian princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (wife of British King George III). Hence, the city has also been given the nickname “Queen City”. Charlotte became famous after the discovery of gold in the beginning of the 19th century, a phenomenon that also triggered the countrywide gold rush. Given its national and international importance, the city has aptly become the headquarters of Bank of America and hosts an indispensable airport for flights to and from Europe. In America, Charlotte is without a doubt the best city for pedestrians, company founders and academics and offers a high quality of life to inhabitants and visitors.
Levine Museum of the New South
Founded in 1991, the Levine Museum of the New South gives an interesting overview of the development of the city and the local Piedmont region, as well as the American Civil War (1861 – 1865). Not only rich and poor, men, women and children but also natives and new settlers fought together in the American Civil War. The museum details the history of Charlotte, from the Civil War to the development of the city from “from cotton fields to skyscrapers”. There are a variety of exhibitions including plantation models, original cotton machinery and miniature buildings from the Bank of America Corporate Centre.
Wells Fargo in Charlotte
There are few western films where you do not see a typical stage coach from the Wells Fargo Company, which was established in 1852. This museum illustrates the turbulent times of the gold search in North Carolina, including ample stories of the wild west, as well as information about the Wachovia Bank that was established in 1879 and was once an important banking chain in the United States. Here in the museum, you can sit in one of the original Wells Fargo stage coaches, visit a recreated gold mine tunnel and see a huge collection of gold nuggets and rare coins.
They come to Discovery Place to be amazed
The exhibition in the science museum Discovery Place is a special experience for people of all ages. Here, you not only watch an exhibit, but take part in the experiments in the “Think It Up Lab” where you can handle the different substances and materials. One of the most amazing things you will experience here is how to create music through physical movement. Or you can easily build an Eiffel Tower in “Project Build” exhibition with the help from some computer programs. Or maybe take a look at the “World Alive” section and see the variety of animal ecology from the samples of birds, sharks, reptiles and other animals.
