Travel Tips to Denver (DEN)
Take a flight to Denver and visit the gold mining town of Colorado
The City and County of Denver is the capital of the beautiful state of Colorado. The city is not only known for soap operas such as “Dynasty”, but was also once the main gold mining metropolis of the United States. Gold seekers from all over the country came to Denver to try their luck in the gold mines and the former gold mining town is now home to almost 600,000 inhabitants. The world famous Rocky Mountains are very close to Denver. And thanks to its mild mountain climate, Denver is a popular tourist destination.
The Denver Art Museum: traditional and modern art
The Denver Art Museum was founded in 1893 as an art gallery. However, the original site soon proved to be too small for the number of exhibits, so the present Denver Art Museum was first built in 1971. In 2000 the building was once again expanded, under the design of the architect Daniel Libeskind and it became one of the main museums of the city. Some of the highlights of the museum are the exhibits of Indian craftsmanship. Ceramic vessels, documents and many other exhibits, show evidence of the local history and artistry, although you can also find contemporary art here too. The Denver Art Museum is open for visitors on Fridays from 10:00 am to 8.00 pm and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is closed on Mondays.
The Colorado State Capitol
The Colorado State Capitol is not only the legislation building of the State of Colorado, but it is also the Governor’s office. The building itself was designed and built in 1890, is made of grey Colorado granite and is worth a visit. The dome of the building is created out of real gold leaf, commemorating the Colorado Gold Rush. Under the dome is the main hall, which has an internal height of about 55 metres. The special feature of the interior is the pink marble, which is mined in the quarries of Beulah. You can visit the Colorado State Capitol throughout the week between 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.
