The Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre
The Scots are convinced that their whisky is the best in the world. So how could a visit to Edinburgh be complete without tasting the local whiskey? The Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre makes it possible for you to verify this claim for yourself. Here you can learn about Scottish whisky and choose from the largest collection in the world of almost 4000 bottles. You can rejuvenate yourself in the restaurant, toast in the bar, or buy some for yourself as a souvenir from the shop. There are three different tours available for Silver, Gold or Platinum users. One tour even allows you to sit in a whiskey barrel while you are shown the diversity of the Scottish national drink.
Relax in the Princes Street Gardens
The Princes Street Gardens in the heart of the city, is truly the green lung of Edinburgh. The locals like to relax there or attend the many concerts that take place in summer. If you want to take time out in the open air after a shopping spree in the adjacent Princes Street, then the Princes Street Gardens is the right place for you. The garden exhibits more than 30,000 plants, beautifully landscaped gardens and a colourful flower clock as well as monuments to the Scottish national hero Sir Walter Scott and David Livingstone. Do not forget to plan a visit to the park when you book your flight to Edinburgh.
Probably the most famous building in Scotland, Edinburgh Castle is a must see. Situated high above the city on Castle Rock, the castle attracts about one million visitors annually. Maria Stuart was one of the many residents of the castle’s long history. And the Stone of Scone, which is the coronation stone used for the coronation of English kings, is located there. As the story goes, the stone was stored in London since 1296 until a Scottish student stole it in 1956 and later returned it. Thus, after 700 years of “exile” the stone finally returned to Edinburgh Castle in 1996. Book a flight to Edinburgh with FlyDoha and discover Scotland’s beautiful capital!
