Travel Tips to New Orleans (MSY)
Flight to New Orleans – attractions of a remarkable city
Upon arrival, you will discover that New Orleans is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. This is only partly due to the jazz scene and the celebrations that you can witness almost daily in various forms. From its lackadaisical reputation in the past, you can easily see why New Orleans is known as "The City That Care Forgot". There are still obvious cultural influences from Creoles, Indians and other nations. You can experience the variety first-hand in New Orleans at the Contemporary Arts Center, the San Francisco Plantation and the Aquarium of the Americas; as well as in the popular traditions and varied cuisine.
Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans – arts and entertainment
The Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans (CAC) was established in 1976 and is in the Warehouse Arts District. The complex is used for all kinds of events, such as concerts, dance performances, art shows and theatre productions. The special parties "Bourbon & Burlesque" and "SweetArts" are also celebrated at the centre. The exhibits are also interesting, where nationally and internationally recognized artists present their works. In addition, regular courses in all fields of art, workshops, excursions and special summer camps are offered by the CAC for people interested in the subject. With its own children's gallery, the CAC also wants the younger generation to be enraptured by art.
San Francisco Plantation – gone like the wind
One of New Orleans top attractions are visits to typical plantations, as seen on movies. Spend a day in the San Francisco Plantation. In its main house, there is a gallery which meticulously brings life to the historic plantation through an illustrative collection of pictures, clothes and various other objects. Accordingly, a tour through the plantation will be led by a guide wearing the clothes of that era. Many locals and tourists can also get married on the plantation. If you’re lucky, maybe you are visiting just at the right time for the annual Frisco Fest.
Aquarium of the Americas – sharks, alligators and many more animals
The Aquarium of the Americas, located on the Mississippi River, has the best facilities of its kind in America. At the aquarium, you can admire 530 species and more than 10,000 animals. Highlights include the "Mississippi River Gallery" in which alligators, paddlefish and catfish romp. In the "Caribbean Reef exhibit" you’re taken through an underwater glass tunnel amidst the animal and plant life of the Caribbean Sea. Stingrays, sea turtles, sharks and many other conspecifics can be admired in the "Gulf of Mexico exhibit".
