Founded in 1847, you can find an interesting mix of historical and modern buildings in the city, such as modern high-rises alongside 19th century buildings. But just as varied as its architecture, is the city’s art and culture. FlyDoha offers a range of flights to Salt Lake City, so make sure you plan your trip today!
On the Trail of the Mormons
Salt Lake City was founded by Mormons and is steeped in in Mormon history. It is said that when the Mormons reached the Great Salt Lake in Utah, their leader spoke the words “This is the Place”. In fact, in that same spot where Brigham Young is thought to have stood, you can see the “This is the Place” monument. In Pioneer State Park, there is a visitor centre where you can find out more about Brigham Young and that great trek. The Old Desert Village gives a striking impression of what a village in the middle of the 19th century would have been like. Many crafts that would have been practiced 150 years ago are demonstrated there in the summer.
Botanical Gardens and Events
Red Butte Garden and Arboretum belongs to the University of Utah and is located on the university campus. The facility, which is open to the public, covers 40 hectares and is separated into the botanical garden, the arboretum (with a collection of special trees) and the amphitheatre. Stroll down different routes through plants typical of the region. Find out about the local flora in the “Natural Area”. Inviting park benches and lawned areas are there for you to relax in, offering a good view of Salt Lake City from the hills above it. There are regular concerts and film evenings in the Amphitheatre and in the greenhouse too.
