Travel Tips to San Jose, CA (SJC)
Reasons to visit San Jose
A visit to the Californian city of San Jose leads you to San Francisco Bay. Home to the 19th century Californian Gold Rush, San Francisco Bay was also one of the most important international sea ports. Currently San Francisco Bay is one of the most built-up and industrialised areas of the USA. Even though San Jose, part of Silicon Valley, is the USA’s centre of innovation in technology, there are many other reasons to visit. Book a flight to San Jose and beginning planning your trip right away!
The Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph
The history of this place of worship dates to the building of the first church in 1803. Three earthquakes and a fire meant the basilica had to be re-built four times, and the fifth church building was consecrated in 1877 by the archbishop of San Francisco. The last part to be built was the dome, built in 1885. One hundred years later the church was declared a cathedral. Visit the basilica dedicated to the patron saint of the Catholic Church in downtown San Jose and allow plenty of time to see it. Especially its amazingly decorated ceiling and stained glass windows.
A Museum for Technology Fans
Located around 10 kilometres from the centre of San Jose, the interactive Intel Museum in Santa Clara, is worth a visit if you are interested in technology. This unique museum has existed within the Intel headquarters since 1992 and has been extended to provide more exhibition space three times. Learn about the history of microprocessors and how they are made, or how chips are made from sand. And what’s more, entry is free!
Hiking and Bird-watching
Another local attraction which has nothing to do with technology, is the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. You can see migratory birds and typical birds of the region, which include Californian brown pelicans and Californian clapper rail. If you like hiking, there are a considerable number of trails to choose from and most paths are also suitable for inexperienced hikers too. With a little luck and patience, you may also see some non-feathered wildlife -lizards and seals. What is certain, is that you will experience a lot! Book your flights to San Jose now.
